Valuing comics is more of an art than a science. We have written about determining the value of your comics on your own in the past, but sometimes you just need to seek help from a professional.

In particular, if you know for certain you have a valuable comic on your hands that you want to sell, or if you have an extremely large comic book collection of varying ages and conditions, a professional appraisal is usually the first step to determining where and how to sell your items.

So where should you get your comics appraised? Here are our suggestions:

Your Local Comic Book Store

Local comic book stores are experts in your local market but also have broad understanding of the dynamics of the industry. They could be a great first-place to get an appraisal. However they may not be able to provide a full-picture story of the market beyond your immediate geographic area unless they have a larger presence. Nonetheless the convenience is a big plus.

A Professional Auction House

If you’re dealing with particularly high priced items, an auction house would be well-equipped to at least give you a ballpark estimate on what your items are worth. They will give you a range based on recently sold items, which is always a good indicator, but in the end no one can definitively tell you how much an item is worth.

Sparkle City Comics

Sparkle City Comics can provide the best of both worlds. We are a large buyer-and-seller of comics, so we always have our finger on the pulse of the market. Additionally, we are experts in the industry and understand what drives the value of a comic. If you’re interested in appraisals or selling your comics, you can always reach out to us!
