TODD McFARLANE SPIDER-MAN
By 1990, Todd McFarlane had become one of the industry’s defining Spider-Man artists. Following his celebrated work on Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel launched this new Spider-Man title with McFarlane handling the writing, pencils and cover artwork.
The result was one of the signature comic launches of the era.
The first issue begins the five-part “Torment” storyline and features the Lizard, with McFarlane bringing the highly detailed webs, exaggerated poses and distinctive visual style that helped redefine Spider-Man artwork for a new generation.
SILVER EDITION
Marvel released Spider-Man #1 with several different cover treatments. This example is the Silver Edition, identified directly on the CGC label.
The silver version transforms McFarlane’s famous web-covered composition into a striking metallic-style presentation and has become a popular alternative to the standard green-cover edition.
